What is The Bloom Project?
When you call something a project, it usually means it has a purpose, a focus, and a sense of development over time. The Bloom Project can be understood as an ongoing exploration and comparison of floral forms to the women I tattoo—how they grow, change, and transform.
It’s not just “a series of pieces”; it’s an intentional body of work with a shared theme, meaning, and evolution.
My style was influenced by being tattooed and feeling the need for something different from what was being offered at the time. I imagined a softer, lighter look with careful consideration to the fit and flow of the body. As I built up my clientele, many clients would start with smaller pieces and end up extending the work into full sleeves and beyond.
The process is the project.
The Bloom Project came out of this and from recognizing the unique journey of each individual as they and their tattoos continue to change over time. With many asking me to tattoo flowers, Bloom is a nod to the symbolic nature of a flower unfolding, much like the tattoo process of the client’s journey.
